The Creative Team - FlyGirls: A Wartime Odyssey

Matia Karrell has a long and extensive career in film and television. She wrote, directed, and produced the Academy Award Nominated short film, Cadillac Dreams.  Her feature film, Behind The Red Door, starring Kiefer Sutherland, Kyra Sedgwick, and Stockard Channing, took first prize for Best Feature Film Screenplay at the Rhode Island International Film Festival and was a finalist in the PEN Center USA Literary Awards. Karrell also collaborated as a writer/producer with Mike Newell at Dogstar Films on developing The Story of V.  Recently she was Production Supervisor on the Golden Globe and Emmy nominated Laura Dern HBO film The Tale. Karrell's television credits include The West Wing, and Army Wives.
 

Karrell is a Fulbright scholar and a recipient of the prestigious John Wells Directing Fellowship, the American Film Institute (AFI)  Directing Workshop for Women Fellowship and the Disney/ABC Directing Fellowship. She is a Graduate Film Instructor at Art Center College of Design, Pasadena. Currently, she is in post-production on her WWII feature-length documentary, Coming Home.

Lillah McCarthy joins FlyGirls after heading up television for Allison Shearmur Prods., where she worked with Lionsgate Television to develop series for premium cable. Prior, Lillah was SVP of Original Programming at TNT/TBS where she oversaw the development of all original series for over a decade. Her successes include: TNT’s Emmy-winning The Closer starring Kyra Sedgwick and Saving Grace starring Holly Hunter. McCarthy’s extensive career also includes Executive Producer of CBS’ Early Edition and SVP of Programming at FBC, where she was involved in the development of The Simpsons, and Married...With Children.

Kelley Busby currently serves as an Executive Producer on Himalaya, written by Philippa Goslett, in partnership with Pulse Films, a narrative feature based on Antonia Deacock’s book No Purdah In Padam, chronicling the extraordinary journey by three 1950s housewives into the previously uncharted Zanskar mountain region. Kelley has also optioned and is developing award-winning author Anna Solomon’s Leaving Lucy Pear into a series with Connie Britton to star. She was an Associate Producer on the award-winning documentary Leave them Laughing as well as the three-part documentary The Power of Intuition, hosted by Roy Scheider and aired on PBS. She co-produced for ESPN The 25th Anniversary of The Battle of the Sexes, hosted by Billie Jean King.

Hilary Prentice is currently producing The Red Door Film's documentary Coming Home, as well as the dramatic television series, FlyGirls. Prentice recently collaborated with Matia Karrell on both the Emmy-nominated HBO film, The Tale, and on Fabrice Joubert's film, Safety. Prentice is also producing Karrell's feature film The Boy On The Bus. She is producing Emmy-winning writer Chuck Sklar's first feature Caught Stealing with Chris Rock.
