Matia Karrell 

MATIA KARRELL has a long and extensive career in film and television. She wrote, directed, and produced the Academy Award Nominated short film, Cadillac Dreams.  She directed, co-wrote and produced her first feature length film, Behind The Red Door, starring Kiefer Sutherland, Kyra Sedgwick, and Stockard Channing. The film took first prize for Best Feature Film Screenplay at the Rhode Island International Film Festival and was a finalist in the PEN Center USA Literary Awards.  She collaborated as a writer/producer with Mike Newell at Dogstar Films on developing The Story of V.  She directed Once Upon A Wedding, The Tub, and the short Lilly and James. Her most recent projects include Executive Producer on the short film Safety, as well as Production Supervisor on the Golden Globe and Emmy nominated HBO film The Tale.

Karrell's television credits include Doogie Howser, M.D., The Wonder Years, Parenthood, American Heiress, The West Wing, and Army Wives.

 

She has received a number of prestigious fellowships including the Fulbright, John Wells Directing Fellowship, American Film Institute (AFI) Women Director's Fellowship, and the Disney-ABC Directing Fellowship. She is a member of the Directors Guild of America, Writers Guild of America, Women in Film and Television International, American Film Institute, and the Alliance of Women Directors. She is a Graduate Film Instructor at Art CenterCollege of Design, Pasadena. Currently she is in post-production on her WWII feature length documentary, Coming Home.

Hilary Prentice

HILARY PRENTICE is currently producing Matia Karrell's documentary Coming Home, about our first female military aviators, the Women Airforce Service Pilots, as well as Karrell's dramatic television series about the WASP, FlyGirls. Prentice recently assisted Karrell on both the Emmy-nominated HBO film, The Tale, and award-winning animation director Fabrice Joubert's film Safety. Prentice is also producing Karrell's feature film The Boy On The Bus, and Emmy-winning writer Chuck Sklar's first feature Caught Stealing with Chris Rock. Prentice has been in production for over 15 years, assisting the producers of Go before producing writer/director Jim MacDonald’s first film, Heavy Lifting which garnered multiple awards across the festival circuit. Prentice has also written, directed and produced numerous educational shorts for nonprofits and corporations including the award-winning start up MagicLinks. Her web series Janeslist about human trafficking in the United States is in post-production. An Academic All-American graduating with honors from Dartmouth College, Prentice was also the recipient of Dartmouth’s prestigious Louis Morton History prize and a Sloane-Dicky fellow.

Molly Merryman

MOLLY MERRYMAN, Ph.D.  is Consulting Producer on Coming Home and the founding director of the Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality and Associate Professor of Sociology at Kent State University. Merryman is the author of Clipped Wings: The Rise and Fall of the Women Airforce Service Pilots of World War II, first published in 1997. Merryman had directed and produced nine documentaries that have been broadcast in the United States and United Kingdom. In 2016, Merryman was honored to receive Kent State’s Diversity Trailblazer Award.

Shilin Sun 

SHILIN SUN is a producer and cinematographer based in Los Angeles. After finishing his Bachelor’s degree in Physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and joining the Film MFA program at the ArtCenter College of Design in 2018, Shilin worked as assistant editor on the PBS Documentary-series Veterans Coming Home.  Most recently, Shilin is co-producing and filming Finding Yingying (a Kartemquin film) about a Chinese family who arrives in Illinois to search for their daughter, an international student, kidnapped within her first weeks in the US. Shilin’s work has won a Chicago College Emmy and earned a nomination for the Student Academy Awards.

Taylor Mavroudis

TAYLOR MAVROUDIS is a soon-to-be graduate of Chapman University’s Film Production program. She has worked in postproduction on short films and series, many of which have been nominated for various awards. Taylor comes from the small town of Arusha, Tanzania and hopes to continue pursuing documentary filmmaking in the future.

YASMINE EL-TAYEB is a soon-to-be graduate of the College of Theater, Film and Television at UCLA. Yasmine works as a sound designer and stage manager with experience in theater, film, and immersive storytelling. Yasmine hopes to explore and pursue a career in sound and management across many different avenues of the entertainment industry.
