Matia Karrell 

Matia Karrell has a long and extensive career in film and television. She wrote, directed, and produced the Academy Award Nominated short film, Cadillac Dreams.  She directed, co-wrote and produced her first feature length film, Behind The Red Door, starring Kiefer Sutherland, Kyra Sedgwick, and Stockard Channing. The film took first prize for Best Feature Film Screenplay at the Rhode Island International Film Festival and was a finalist in the PEN Center USA Literary Awards.  She collaborated as a writer/producer with Mike Newell at Dogstar Films on developing The Story of V.  She directed Once Upon A Wedding, The Tub, and the short Lilly and James. Her most recent projects include Executive Producer on the short film Safety, as well as Production Supervisor on the Golden Globe and Emmy nominated HBO film The Tale.

Karrell's television credits include Doogie Howser, M.D., The Wonder Years, Parenthood, American Heiress, The West Wing, and Army Wives.

 

She has received a number of prestigious fellowships including the Fulbright, John Wells Directing Fellowship, American Film Institute (AFI) Women Director's Fellowship, and the Disney-ABC Directing Fellowship. She is a member of the Directors Guild of America, Writers Guild of America, Women in Film and Television International, American Film Institute, and the Alliance of Women Directors. She is a Graduate Film Instructor at Art CenterCollege of Design, Pasadena. Currently she is in production on her WWII feature length documentary, Coming Home.
